ジャックとテスが提案した買収案に対して、「メトロの他に案件はないですか。」 とトラスト社の担当者が聞いているシーンです。
“besides” という単語は、この例のように、疑問文や否定文で使われる場合は、「～の他に」 という 意味になります。“except” と “other than” も同じ意味です。
例えば、「私以外は、誰も部屋にいません。」 と言う場合は、下記のようになります。
- There is no one in the room besides me.
- There is no one in the room except me.
- There is no one in the room other than me.
疑問文や否定文以外で “besides” を使った場合の意味は、「～に加えて」 となりますので注意して
ください。
Besides us, two rival firms participated in the bidding.
（私たちに加えて、ライバル２社が入札に参加した。）
