デカップリング ： decoupling
"An Independent streak"
Investors were until recently big fans of the "decoupling" theory, the notion that Asian economies can shrug off an American recession.
This week's plunge in share prices, at one point taking the MSCI Emerging Asia Index down 25% from its October high, suggests they have changed their minds.
But the fact that their stock markets are still coupled does not mean that their economies will follow America over a cliff.

デカップリングとは、否定の接頭語 “de ” が “couple （結びつく）” という語についていますから 「分離する」 という意味になります。 記事の表題で “独立の流れ” といっています様に、 「アジアの経済が、アメリカ経済の後退の影響を受けなくなってきた」という 考えをデカップリング理論といっています。
MSCI Emerging Asia Index とは、モルガン・スタンレー・キャピタル・インターナショナル新興国インデックス のことで、 モルガン・スタンレー・キャピタル・インターナショナル社が計算している株価指数のことです。アジアの新興国市場 （emerging markets）には、中国、韓国、台湾、フィリピン、マレーシア、インドネシア、パキスタン、インド、タイが含まれています。
この記事の後に続く記事で、日本経済は、依然、輸出に依存し（export-led economy)、しかも、アメリカ経済に頼り切っていると述べています。 デカップリング理論は、日本には当てはまらないようです。
