"Yoyogi Seminar to close 75% of its cram schools across Japan"

Yoyogi Seminar, a major operator of "yobiko" cram schools for high school students and graduates prepping for university entrance exams, will close 20 of its 27 schools nationwide next spring to streamline operations amid Japan's declining birthrate, sources familiar with the matter said Saturday.

Of the seven schools that will remain, two are located in Tokyo, where Yoyogi Seminar is based, and one each in Sapporo, Niigata, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka, the sources said.

Yoyogi Seminar will not renew employment contracts with some of its lectures in line with the downsizing, they added.
