「日本郵政（Japan Post）、海外子会社の巨額損失に注視」という、この記事は、最近続いている、日本企業による外国企業買収の失敗のニュースです。

Japan Post Holdings might post impairment losses worth hundreds of billions of yen for fiscal 2016 related to its
2015 acquisition of an Australian logistics firm, sources said.

The development marks the latest example of losses chalked up by Japanese firms that have embarked on overseas expansions, including Toshiba, whose U.S. nuclear unit filed for bankruptcy protection last month.
Japan Post is looking to write down the value of the assets at Toll Holdings, recognizing goodwill exceeding its original estimate. It acquired the transport group for around 6.48 billion Australian dollars ($5.07 billion) in May 2015.

記事によりますと、日本郵政は、2015年に64.8億豪ドル（50.7億米ドル）で買収した、オーストラリアの物流企業、トール・ホールディングス社の業績悪化による損出の評価損を計上する ことを検討しているとのことです。トール社の損出は、オーストラリアの天然資源価格下落による、貨物量の減少と、記事の中では述べられています。
この記事で取り上げられている東芝の米国原子力子会社の場合と同じですが、今回の日本郵政の問題は、国内の需要が先細りの中で、海外進出を余儀なくされている日本企業の海外企業買収の際の企業価値評価、 いわゆる、「のれん（goodwill）」の見積が適正でなかった例です。
「のれん、のれん代」 と言われる、“goodwill” とは、会計学の教科書、“Accounting Principle” によりますと、次のように説明されています。
To an accountant, the difference between the purchase price of the business and the current value of the assets and liabilities acquired is an intangible known as goodwill.
「企業の買収価格と、買収した時点の、その企業の資産と負債の現在価値の差が、無形価値、いわゆる “のれん代” である」
